Japan Institute of Design Promotion

JDP is Japan’s only institution dedicated to comprehensive promotion of design. Truly comprehensive, this promotion encompasses the internationally recognized Good Design Award program—held for more than 60 years—and activities at Good Design Marunouchi and Tokyo Midtown Design Hub to share compelling design and explore its potential.

To encourage broad public appreciation of design and inspire effective design all around us, JDP grows with the design community by supporting it at individual, corporate, and regional levels. Pursuit of a new social vision in Japan gained momentum after the disaster in 2011. Many projects since then have attempted to tap the power of design in making the invisible visible and get people talking. In business and administration alike, more people are calling for inspired design.
Responding to this need is essential, in our view, as is motivating people to apply the power of design for social issues and topics of concern. JDP therefore cultivates design communities, advises on business-savvy design that builds brands, creates opportunities to improve production and business development with designer input, and offers training for sophisticated design management.

These activities explore ways of capitalizing on design as never before, and we must describe them and share the results not only in Japan but with the world at large. Promotion and broad publicity of joint projects with the creative community, industry, and academia in rapidly evolving Asia and around the world paves the way for more people to see the advantages of good design.
