Prof. Makoto Watanabe
Makoto Watanabe received his Doctor of Engineering (D.Eng) from Chiba University, Japan. Currently he is a Professor of Design Management at Chiba University, Graduate School of Engineering. He is a former designer at Seiko, Japan. His major field of interest and publication are mainly on Industrial Design, Design Management and Design Expert System. Now, he is Vice President of Chiba University. He is also JDP Board. He was Vice President of Japan Society for the Science of Design and he was also ICSID/WDO Executive Board.
渡边诚教授自日本千叶大学获得工学博士学位,目前为日本千叶大学工学研究生院设计管理专业教授,千叶大学副校长,日本设计产业振兴会理事。渡边诚教授曾担任日本设计学会副会长及国际工业设计学会/世界设计组织执行委员会理事。他曾就职于日本精工株式会社,担任设计师一职。他的主要研究领域为工业设计、设计管理及设计专家系统。

AI has become the talk of every designer in recent years when they think about “Technology and Design.” An important challenge facing the designers is how to use AI in their designing processes. In the researches of design methodology in the late 1980s, an automation of design and design expert system were important subjects of study. Although various subjects including A-LIFE had been studied after that, this movement lost steam in about 2000. Many of those studies were modeling thought processes of prominent designers and automatically generating the processes using CAD. There have been cases in which the system was actually built and used. However, as it expands enormous efforts to specify a complicated designing process and build and improve a database, it is used only if the issues are solved. Meanwhile, AI in recent years gives a new solution using a large database, which is the opposite way of how the information was used in automation in the past. This talk provides what sort of design AI can substitute for in future after about 30 years.
近年来,AI已经成为设计师们在探讨“科技与设计”领域的前沿论题。如何将AI应用于设计过程是设计师们面临的重要难题。20世纪80年代后期,关于设计方法的研究中,设计自动化与设计专家系统是重要研究方向。尽管此后陆续也有相关研究,如A-LIFE,但2000年前后已经不再成为主流。当时很多研究纷纷针对知名设计师的思考过程建模,使用CAD自动生成思考过程,部分研究成果已经投入产业应用中。但由于搭建并完善定制化的复杂设计流程和数据库的成本巨大,通常这类方法一般在问题得到解决后才会被采用。近年来,不同于过去信息如何被用于自动化的设计方式,AI的兴起提供了基于大型数据库的新型解决方案。本次报告将介绍30年后AI将取代哪些设计领域。
